Place Setting
by Geddes Fielder

I set a place
each year
beneath the christmas tree
for
someone who once meant
the entire world
to me.

She is no longer
with us,
she left without a word
the winds and rains
of
London town
pulled her to the earth.

Every year at this time
I set an extra place
in the tiny corner
of my heart
that memorized her face.

And when the day
is finally done
I put her back
once more
behind the quiet moments
we shared
in times of yore..
