Winter Solstice
by Sue Nosker

The Priestesses were up early
hiked to the top of the mountain
the sun would rise anew this day
explode like fire fountain

The candles burned all night long
focusing their intentions
let go of that which does not serve
manifest new dimensions

The darkest night of the year
gives rise to the birth of the sun
a time of reflection, renewal and rebirth
focus on what is still undone

I yelled my vows from that mountain top
the goddesses and green man could hear
blood started flowing from my womb
the sun rose brilliant and clear

Last year I vowed to write a poem
each day throughout the year
I brought four volumes to the alter
and read for the Priestesses to hear
