Holidays 2002 Wordgames

One of the staples of the Creative Women writers has been the Wordgames... where there is a list of designated words and the challenge was to come up with a poem or creative writing using all the words on the list.  We've had a number of brillant creations this way at the old CW message board on AOL, and it was resurrected in time for the 2002 Holidays.  It's amazing the variety of themes that come up using the same words!

Holiday Wordgame #1 had the following words:
mistletoe, decorate, blessings, snow, holly, wreath, chocolate, distant, prepare, believe, season, country.   And these are the results......

Tis the season ....
by Cassavant

The signal words that launch
Open warfare on peace of mind.
People madly rush about decorating their dwellings.
Some with wreaths of holly and fake snow,
Cause the real stuff is so lacking the right impact!
Others with miles of garish lights and plastic angels,
While Dolby augmented heavenly choruses
Assail the senses as child-filled cars drive by,
Noses pressed to the window.
Across town, in a hushed backyard, a woman
Traces outlines of hearts in the snow,
Believing that the ones she love will
Hear her distant wishes.
Her small task complete, she returns
Inside where she prepares a
Steaming mug of hot chocolate.
Stretching back in her recliner,
Sipping the liquid manna, her eyes
Sketch in the special someone she'd
Like to be kissing under the mistletoe
She'd hung over the parlor arch.

Maybe next year.

That Time Of The Year Again
by Lilifyre3

Oh, it's that time of year again.
The season of madness and mayhem.
The stores and malls have been preparing for months.
How can they possibly believe that shoppers
Wish to be assaulted by mistletoe and holly
Before the last piece of chocolate from the Trick or Treat bag is consumed?
Myself, I prefer a drive out to the country.
There, the snow lay untouched by human footprint.
Sparkling gems of ice decorate each tree branch with a wreath of majesty.
What a blessing to find such natural splendor
While winding my way o'er distant roads.

Solstice
by Che Pod Finn

Do you remember three years ago?
Believe it was our second Solstice
We decorated the house
As we prepared our Yuletide alter,
I reveled you with tales
about growing up in the distant country.
A land where
two-foot snowstorms
were normal.
I told you about
how my mom's sister
always bought
"The family box of chocolates"
Then with alter set,
we asked the goddesses' blessings.
Amidst the holly
and the mistletoe,
while placing a wreath of poesies
engraved in Gaelic
upon the ring finger of
Your left hand,
I asked you to be my wife.
Happy Anniversary
"Pulse Of My Heart"

Christmas Blessings
by B.D. Harpold aka Cltcgdss

Tis the season to stop and think
About the blessings
We have all received.
It's not about the gifts from stores,
For I believe it's the ones you cannot see.
So, as we decorate our homes
With the holly wreath and mistletoe,
And welcome our friends with hot chocolate
Remember those upon distant lands
Who can only dream of Christmas snow
As they prepare to lay their bodies down
For the country they have sworn to serve
It's to them we owe our blessings so rich
Upon this yuletide eve

Meet Me Under The Mistletoe
by Lynn Kupfer aka EagleHart

Meet me under the mistletoe, my love
Be prepared to be swept off your feet
Cause this love that we share is the reason
I want to decorate your body with kisses
Sweet and velvet like chocolate
No matter what the season
We've adorned our house with wreaths of holly
And since it rarely snows in Cajun country
We'll just hold hands and make believe
We're walking in a winter wonderland
It doesn't matter where our path leads
And tho some of our dreams may seem distant
I can count the blessings that have come my way
Since the day you came into my life
Merry Christmas, my love

BlueGrass Christmas
by Sue Blanchard

Tis the season for travel across distant miles
No need to decorate our own meanwhile
My Ole Kentucky Home did call
No tree, no wreath, no crystal ball

Bluegrass country, it's beauty I've missed so
The horses, the people, and the beautiful snow
A time of magic, and wonder to conceive
And of Frosty and Santa, I truly believe

A return to good times and friends that await
To share new tales and reminisce til late
Prepare to host a glorious feast
Perhaps Who Hash and Who Roast Beast

And tummys filled with Food and candy
Nuts and chocolate, oh how dandy
We count our Blessings and wish all well
A Holly jolly Christmas so swell

There'll be presents and laughter and frolic we will
Perhaps we'll sled down a snowy hill
And on Christmas eve when the lights are low
I'll meet you under the mistletoe

Cajun Christmas
by L. Kupfer aka EagleHart

Come December 24th
I know its not gonna snow
Way down here in Louisiana bayou country
But I'm dreaming of a Cajun christmas
Just like the ones I've always known
Where folks decorate their pickup trucks with wreaths
And everybody knows that fried turkey
And a little mistletoe help make the season bright
Be prepared to hear Grandpa's tale
Of how Grandma wasn't really run over by a reindeer
But by a big ole Gator
And he's got the boots to prove it
We southerners always go out of our way
To help deck y'alls with boughs of holly
Jack Frost can nip my nose all he wants
As long as his cousin Jack Daniels's in my hot chocolate
Of course the kids will find it hard to sleep tonight
They believe Santa's on his way in a pirogue
With the bonfires ablaze on the levees of the Mississippi
To light his way
We wish all our family and friends
Near and distant
All the warmest wishes and blessings of these holidays
And laissez les bon temps rouler!
