"Songs from Out of
the Southern Shadows"
by Tanith McKlane

For Christine, my one true Friend

Welcome Home

The thrilling kiss
of air brakes
at Beauvais Airport,
with, Papal greeting.
A tired hours
drive, and Christine’s
problems.

Early summer rain
brushes the streets
with neon
enlightenment.
Gliding Cappucino
and Christine’s
problems.

On a hill, overlooking,
the Sacred heart
watches. Weeping
for the savage dichotomy.
Erudition by day
Eroticism by night
as Degas meets Disney.

At a club.
No latin quarter
asked--nor given. Illusory
fragrances,
vibrant music, violent
eyes assessing,
Croque Monsieurs
and homophobia.

A silent stroll
beneath a star dappled
canvas. Concupiscent
coupling leading to
half-written songs,
an icicle bed,
and a forgotten
Rembrandt

Welcome Home!
