"Songs from Out of
the Southern Shadows"
by Tanith McKlane

From the shadows of the South (sestina)

Now, for my heart is full of shadows
and who could say for what reason.
Let it be you, who gives me back my life
that I may continue to exist.
Reach out, neither in anger, nor pity
but to offer the ambrosia of love.

Forswear your cloak, and light, with love
so that sun may pierce the shadows.
It is naught to me. For I have not pity
on those, who deny, for no reason
the truth. Above all, we exist
so, that in this world, life begets life.

Come, sip with me, this elixir of life
and fill our journey with love.
If ,it is to be, for you, I exist,
then cast out these demon shadows.
Let not there be clouds, no reason
for our souls to be regaled with pity.

Should I suffer, as you watch, without pity?.
For, there is nothing worse in this life
than to undergo, without reason,
the sadness of unrequited love.
Then if you pass by my shadows,
will I have no meaning to exist.

And, if it is so, that I must exist
while, inside your heart, you find no pity
Then, in broken shadows
will I continue this mournful life.
For, it is true, that, without your love
my being has no reason.

Now, for on this earth there is no reason
why together we cannot exist
In the heart of each other's love.
Will we watch, engrossed, and have pity
on those who meander through this life
and spend their days in shadows.

Find for us, in this life, a quiet simple place
that can exist, without shadows. Then, will I
have reason to offer, without pity, my eternal love.
