South Street Seaport

Elementary school field trip
The Circle Line
Magnificent in its majesty
Sailing sluggishly along
Larger then life
What do children know?
Continuing their monotonous games
Ms. Mary Mac, hide -n- go seek, ring
around the rosie
Gusting sea breeze knocking my skinny
figure to and fro
Waves crashing, spurting salty kisses to taste
Gulls flocking overhead chattering away
A silhouette of red and orange rippling just
below the waters surface
Calling my name
Calling me to play
Calling me to jump
Had Mrs. Wong not been so attentive
Davie Jones would be my new home
Instead of completely declining from
the invitation
I plucked my mothers amethyst earrings
from my lobes
Proudly tossing them into the murky depths
and blowing kisses to my friend
As if to say...we shall meet again.
