Lord Richard was gone for two months.  Christine and Nan wanted to spend everyday of those two months together.  But they knew of Lord Richard's spies, so they had to be discreet.  Christine's broken wrist was the excuse they used for Nan's frequent visits.

A couple of hours were the most they stole during the days.  Nights were horrible for them.  They couldn't be together, for it was too suspicious for Nan to spend the night with her. Then Nan realized Christine's condition. She was pregnant.

When Nan made Christine finally accept that fact one day as they lay in bed, it nearly broke both of their hearts. Escape was no longer possible. Christine might have found the strength to abandon her husband, but a child would bind her to him as sure as chains. She would never leave him now.

But they had each other, even if the moments were few, at least they had that.
