For Brooklyn born, NY native Leslie Nuchow, it
was an act of personal conscience that brought
her to national prominence. Leslie was approached
to participate in a high-profile and lucrative
promotion run by the Virginia Slims cigarette
company. She turned the opportunity down and instead
founded the Virginia
SLAM!, an organization committed to keeping
tobacco money out of the music business.
The SLAM! has sponsored two concerts, the SLAM!1,
at the Wetlands, and the SLAM!2 in April '98,
which featured the Indigo Girls, as well as a
showcase for up and coming unknown acts.
In addition to the larger concerts, Leslie has
been performing mini SLAM!s for middle school,
high school and college audiences around the nation,
using her musical and political voice to empower
young people to see through corporate exploitation
and manipulation, encouraging and inspiring them
to find their own, true voices. Some of Leslie's
mini SLAM!s have included performances at the
United Nations, the MGM Main Theater, and the
National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Through the SLAM! and her own unmistakable
talent, Leslie has appeared on Good Morning
America, CNN, the CBS Evening News, and
Dateline NBC. She has sung for Nelson Mandela
and other global dignitaries at the State
of the World Forum in San Francisco.
Leslie's songwriting skills have won her
accolades including the grand prize from
the Thirteenth Annual Mid-Atlantic Songwriter's
Contest and three times has been honored
with the National Academy of Popular Music
Best Songwriter National Search.

After winning a nation-wide talent
search, Leslie was invited to perform at the Lilith
Fair in 1999. She shared the stage with Sheryl
Crow, the Indigo Girls, Sarah McLachlan, the Dixie
Chicks and Deborah Cox. She has also shared the
stage with Shawn Mullins, Blessid Union of Souls,
Patti Smith and Jill Sobule. Leslie is featured
on Refuge, a 1999 compilation CD with Peter Gabriel.
Leslie's first CD, Tenderland, combines
a voice of immense power and sensuality with politically
and personally astute lyrics.
Leslie's 5 song sampler CD, 5,
has all of the power and magnetism of her full
length CD, Tenderland, but a few never-before-released
gems.A mix of Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morisette,
and Tori Amos. Upbeat and danceworthy.
Leslie's single, Eye for an Eye, was written
just days after the attack on the World Trade
Center, and she recorded it at a studio two blocks
from ground zero. Proceeds from the sale of this
CD will benefit organizations working for peace.
