I sense the road you travel
Has met some twists and turns
That you've discovered destinations
For new memories to burn.

And it's clear now more than ever
That you'll never share the time
Pottpourri of emotions
In my heart, soul, and mind.

You saw but a few words
Of the verses in your hand,
Equal to a single grain
In a desert full of sand.

Glancing swiftly at the cover
And the foreword of my book,
But as for every chapter
You have yet to even look.

Rustling quickly through the pages
So oblivious to how I felt,
As I watched my expectations
That had grown suddenly wilt.

I had hoped you'd read all
And had trusted that you would,
I believed that when you did
We'd experience all we could.

Now I feel like a turtle
Separated from its shell,
I retreat from emotions
Like a lone, little snail.

For it's clear now more than ever
That you'll never share the time
Potpourri of emotions
In my heart, soul, and mind.
