Just when I held my head up
And managed to stand proudly
K.D. Lang went and sang
"Constant Craving"
Shortly after that Vince Gill
Sang "When I Call Your Name"
Then Trisha Yearwood was next
With "The Song Remembers When"
By the time I heard Joy White
Sing "Bittersweet End"
My broken heart was staring
Me right in the face,
I promptly fell apart
And became a basket case.
I can't eat, can't sleep,
Can't even go to town.
I can't think, can't speak,
Can't even fool around.
Inconceivable to me,
I'm not sure how this can be
But it's harder to get over
Someone I've never been with
Than anyone I ever have before.
Once again I held my head up
I managed to stand proudly
And accepted invitations,
But you'd think I would know
That a basket case driver
Should shut off the radio.
I heard Patsy Cline sing
"I Fall To Pieces"
And Gene Watson belted out
"Farewell Party"
Then as John Conlee sang
"Rose Colored Glasses"
My broken heart went staring
Me right back in the face
And I promptly fell apart
The same ole basket case.
I can't eat, can't sleep,
Can't even go to town
One wrong song
And I'll end up
A no-show.
I can't think, can't speak,
For sure can't fool around
Just one glance at my face
And everyone will know:
***Basket Case***
Why did I have to go
And fall in love with you?
How many more tears before
I finally make it through,
If my heart can't erase
The sad fact that I'm still
A basket case?
