Granny
A stranger in a strange place
She sits in her wheelchair
dull brown eyes blank
looking nowhere
Wisps of thin gray hair
gently caress her face
this fragile tiny lady
of eighty eight
Placing her gnarled hands in mine
I get no response
I close my eyes wanting
to tap into her energy
I feel her communicate with me

"I am in here, trapped in this body
that no longer works for me.
Look inside and see the depths
of my soul
See my spirit
Look into my heart and see that
a fire though dim, still burns
within me.
My mind cries to be free
I have desires that long to be felt
Passion rises up within me and demands to be free."
I open my eyes and see a lone tear slowly
falling down her face.
