Fire Ring

Some days
letting go is like
getting marshmallow
off your fingers
and you realize
you don't want to let go
of what is so very, very sweet
you'd rather lick it
slowly
lovingly
reverently
until all that is left
are your own fingers
and treasured memories
burning like red coals
in the fire ring
