The Deepening

I sense a deepening.....
A graceful aging between us
That spans a lifetime
Has beckoned us here
To this peaceful place
Of contentment.
You're the heart of my heart
The woman that I have always loved
I love the cinders in your fire
Your sway in the breeze
With your arms about me
I love how your light clings to my earth
When darkness sweeps over me
I love your rugged self
Your delicate self
The softening of your eyes
The tousle of your hair
The mellowing of the all of you
I love how you turn so much softer now
And hesitate before voicing some rage
There's a knowing instead
In an unfolding wisdom
And with a compassion and freedom
Like none we have ever known
I love how you tutor my eyes and thoughts
When I am lost in some blind alley
Your inner balance
Despite your irresistible impulse
I love your laughter
In a miserable winter
Your occasional brooding
And mysterious ways
I love how my violet suffers
When tinged in the blue of you
How you can so innocently
Arouse my nostalgic thoughts
And the genuine goodness
That is rooted in your nature
I love your flowers in my garden
Your pores on my skin
I am utterly peaceful
Here in your arms
When the reflections I see
Are those of a sharing
That spans a lifetime
I love you.
