The baby dance

The sun
sets in the west-
rises in the east
I've got ten fingers
and ten toes.

when I walk,
I walk westward.
I ride the wheel
like everyone else
some..
are just standing further
due west...

and I watch them disappear
over the horizon-
they go with the sun-
each day...month...year
we all shuffle one place to the west...

but Ho! while we shuffle
new life comes from the east
(oh it all looks the same..)
one baby cooed many west steps ago
one baby cooes, drools-takes a step
from the east.

And we all hold 'em
hold those babies tight
for they are
what keeps this dance
sane
this endless shuffle bearable
hold 'em
hold em tight...
